Ayia Napa Monster “Conclusion”

The Coelacanth pictured here was another
proven not to be extinct Crypt.
In conclusion, the sea monster Ayia Napa is a monster that inhabits the seas around Ayia Napa, Cyprus. Due to the mixed descriptions ranging from the outrageous Scylla to a sea serpent; which makes it really hard to believe if the creature really exist at all. I really enjoyed this project for two reasons, one was the fact that cryptozoology is pretty fun to learn about. That there are plenty of crypts that was once thought to be completely myth, but has been proven to exist today like the giant squid and the silverback gorilla. The other factor was just the simple fact that it was my first ever experience with creating a blog, but unfortunately my computer did not approve of the site. In the finality of this blog I did not find any evidence that would make me 100% believe it is real. I would have to see it in person to really believe it to exist but it is always a good idea to keep an open mind about these kinds of things

Ayia Napa Sea Monster “Evidence”

There is no photographic evidence that I could find of the Sea Monster of Ayia Napa. There are a few undocumented sighting every now and then. Cape Greco is said to by local legend to be the creature’s home and is where most of the “sightings” occur. There are many different descriptions of the beast; some say it is similar to the Scylla mentioned before, a top half dragon and a bottom half porpoise, but the more believable form is a serpent or a crocodilian form. So all of this does not really helps its case. I was unfortunately unable to find any photo evidence online but if I actually went to Ayia Napa I bet I could find any evidence easy since they use it as a tourist attraction. So what if they use it as a tourist destination, but by doing so they are making it less and less likely for it to be real. If it even exist at all in the first place. In the end it does not really matter the evidence, if one truly believes the creature to exist then it just might after all.

Ayia Napa Sea Monster “Stories”

New Cape Greco, Ayia Napa, Cyprus
There are no detailed stories that I could find of the monster but many people believe it to be the Scylla or the monster to inspire the Scylla. The Scylla was a Greek maiden sea monster of myth. Since there was evidence of it on a wall of either a house or villa in Cyprus so this caused many believe it to be the monster. But the Scylla is a major contrast to the Ayia Napa Monster because the Scylla would kill sailors that came near its home, but local fisherman “The Friendly Monster” is what they call the Ayia Napa Monster. Most of the believers say it is similar to the Scylla, while others say it looks like a crocodile or serpent. But every one can agree on the fact that Cape Greco is the monster home and all of the hotels in the area boast about being in the proximity of sightings and thus is the main attractions for tourist to see the

Ayia Napa History

Ayia Napa is a place located on the south eastern coast of Cyprus, New Cape Greco. Which is located in the Mediterranean sea and is a very popular tourist destinations due to it favorable tropical weather. The Ayia Napa sea monster is know to the local fisherman as "to fillko teras" which translates to "the friendly monster" because it has never harmed a human in the history of its own monster folklore. "Many believers of the myth of the Ayia napa sea monster like to link it with the common mythological sea monster called Skylla." (fortean.wikidot)
Skylla was a monstrous who would kill six men aboard any ship that would be foolish enough to sail to close to her home in a cave located on a water cliff. the Scylla is also the other name for the monster and was also mentioned in Homer's epic story The Odyssey which would snatch up and eat six of Odysseus's men. To this day "spotting the monster remains a highlight for tourist on boating trips in the area." (ayanapa)

Ayia Napa Monster blog proposal

Crytozoology is the study of hidden animals; crytozoologist search for animals that existance has not been proven yet. They call these animals crytids and there are numerous types of crytids in the world, ranging from Big Foot, legendary animals of myth and folklore to even dinosaurs thought to be extinct. Ayia Napa Sea monster is a aquatic cryptid that is said to inhabit the coast off of Ayia Napa, Cyprus. Ayia Napa is located in the Mediterranean and the monster is know by some of the locals, mostly fisherman, as "The Friendly Monster" because it has never done any harm to humans. Belivers link it to the Greek mythological monster Scylla; It was "a horrible sea monster with four eyes, six long necks equipped with grisly heads, each of which contained three rows of sharp teeth. Her body consisted of twelve tentacle-like legs and a cat's tail and with four to six dog-heads ringing her waist." (Wikipedia.org)

Ayia Napa monster could exist but I highly doubt that it looks like the Scylla; it is said to be something like a crocodile or a serpent. The Ocean is vast and it will probally be far far in the future before we humans will ever know what all is down there so there could easily be things that we once thought to be extinct living down past the point we human cannot go, For example the coelacanth which was said to be extinct 65 million years ago was recently dicovered to have survived in the deep deep ocean. Which just proves that something could exist like the Ayian Napa Monster could defintely exist, it could just be very good at hiding. In the end though everone is entitled to their own beliefs and opinions so whatever the reader wants to believe is there own right.
